Detry Moves to Fifth in European Ryder Cup Rankings
Belgium’s Thomas Detry blew away the field with a stunning seven-stroke victory at the WM Phoenix Open and in return enters the automatic qualification places on the 2025 European Ryder Cup Rankings.
Detry became the first Belgian to win on the PGA TOUR following his maiden TOUR title and also climbed 23 places into fifth position in the European Ryder Cup Rankings with 516.22 points.

Should Detry make Captain Luke Donald’s 2025 European Ryder Cup team, it would be his debut appearance for Team Europe as well as becoming only the third Belgian to represent Europe at the Ryder Cup following Nicolas Colsaerts (2012) and Thomas Pieters (2016).

Rounds of 66-64-65-65 saw Detry finish a comfortable seven strokes ahead of his nearest competitors Daniel Berger and Michael Kim at TPC Scottsdale.
Detry said: “It's incredible. It's what dreams are made of. That walk on the last hole was incredible.
“I've given myself plenty of chances in the past but never been able to put a statement out like that. I'm just so happy.
“I felt like I played a lot of great golf and did a lot of really good things this week, and I feel like we kind of deserved that.”

Scotsman Robert MacIntyre, a Ryder Cup winner with Team Europe in 2023, finished in a tie for sixth in Phoenix as he carded rounds of 68-69-65-67 and subsequently moves up to 16th place in the 2025 European Ryder Cup Rankings on 323.57 points.
Rory McIlroy currently occupies top spot in qualifying on 1,384.07 points, with Tyrrell Hatton (922.84 points), Rasmus Højgaard (798.63 points), Shane Lowry (563.73 points), Detry (522.07 points) and Matt Wallace (527.42) points) rounding out the automatic qualifiers.
The qualification process will end at the DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, which concludes on Sunday August 24, 2025.
